Green Schools

'Green Schools' is an international environmental education process which promotes environmental action and awareness amongst schoolgoers. Through it, environmental issues move out of the curriculum and into the day-to-day running of the school.  It is run by An Taisce in co-operation with Local Authorities throughout Ireland. Green Schools is both a programme and an award scheme; the Green Flag award is given to schools that successfully complete the programmes.

Westport schools were amongst the first in the country to achieve Green Schools status.
