Twin Towns

Westport is twinned with two other towns – Plougastel in France and Limavady in Derry, Northern Ireland.

Westport/Plougastel

Westport and Plougastel in north western France have been twinned since 1977. A large group from Plougastel made a celebratory visit to Westport in April 2007 to mark the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the twinning.

Westport/Limavady

Links between these two towns have their roots in the 1980’s and the official ratification and twinning ceremony took place in 2002. Social and economic events include school exchanges; regular visits to Limavady by Westport’s Active Retirement Association; exchange visits by sporting organisations, and artists from Limavady have held exhibitions at the Customs House Studios.  Artists from the Custom House Studios have also exhibited in Limavady. Other initiatives such as craft workshops, choral exchanges and commitment to the twinning by Councillors and the twinning committee ensure that the links between the two towns continue to develop.

Westport/Aror Partnership

A partnership exists between Westport and Aror in Kenya. The partnership concept is a long-term association with a less fortunate community in economic terms. The Partnership celebrated their 25th Anniversary in 2007.
